Through local School Boards, Adventist Education employs more than 250 teachers, administration and support staff throughout our region. Unless otherwise indicated, all applications or enquiries should be directed to the school principal. Chaplains are appointed by the relevant conferences.

Employment criteria will differ for each country, however all those wishing to teach in the Adventist Education system must meet the minimum academic and professional requirements for that country.

Professional Requirements for Teaching in New Zealand

In New Zealand, all teaching positions in Adventist Schools are ‘tagged’ and advertised as such. Teachers in ‘tagged’ positions must meet specific criteria and all advertisements for teaching positions also contain the following wording: “As a special character school, a willingness and ability to take part in religious instruction and uphold the Seventh-day Adventist character of the school is a condition of employment.”

Professional registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand is a requirement for all teachers.

All overseas applicants for teaching positions are required to submit their academic and professional qualifications to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority for evaluation.

Professional Requirements for Teaching in The Cook Islands

• For secondary schools, a university degree in Education or any relevant discipline and a teaching qualification.

• For primary schools, a university degree in Education/Teaching

• For Early Childhood school, a university degree in EC Education/Teaching

If applying from outside the Cook Islands, it is desirable to have a current teacher registration in the country in which you reside.

Professional Requirements for Teaching in French Polynesia

All school instruction is in French. French Polynesia has the same educational system as France, but it is altered slightly to conform with needs specific to the territories. Additionally, public education is financed through the government, which also subsidizes some private schools that are operated by churches.

In addition to teaching staff, positions are available in administration and educational support. To obtain more information on these, contact your local Adventist school.
